"As I have travelled through Africa & Asia in my role as Secretary of State for International Development, I have seen something of what it must mean to be a child on the streets. Neglected by family and society. Without protection and exposed to all forms of abuse. Not just living in poverty - but potentially facing a lifetime of suffering.
This government is committed to helping children avoid and escape from life on the streets. Such as helping provide education for all, supporting HIV orphans and other vulnerable children, encouraging governments to uphold the rights of the child. And we welcome and support the efforts of other groups and individuals who seek to help tackle this unacceptable problem."
Rt Hon Douglas Alexander MP
Secretary of State for International Development
