Advocacy
As the leading international member-based network dedicated to advocating, promoting and campaigning for the rights of street-involved children, the Consortium for Street Children challenges attitudes at the highest level in order to change lives at street level.
What is advocacy?
CSC's advocacy programme aims to end the discrimination and abuse that prevents street-involved children worldwide from exercising the rights granted to them under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
We do this by influencing decision-makers by campaigning for the rights of street children locally, nationally and internationally and by amplifying the voices of street children so that their concerns are acted upon by international organisations, governments and the public.
CSC's advocacy work is delivered through two key strands:
Representation:
The Consortium for Street Children participates in various international, national and regional conferences, workshops, events and meetings at which it represents its members and the street-involved children they serve. Recent examples of such representation can be found here.
CSC also participates in the following Working Groups and Advisory Panels:
- Consultative status with the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (ECOSOC)
- Better Care Network Advisory Group
- UK Consortium on AIDS & International Development's 'Children Affected by AIDS (CABA) Working Group'
