Inaugural celebration of the International Day for Street Children.

The inaugural International Day for Street Children was celebrated for the first time on 12th April, 2011. A resounding success, the campaign was launched at the National Theatre, London, with an exhibition featuring photographs of street children taken by internationally renowned artists Robin Hammond, Marcus Lyon, Ronka Oberhammer and Dario Mitidieri.

Diplomats, policy makers, CSC members and corporate representatives joined the throngs of bustling Londoners crossing Waterloo Bridge in viewing the projections. Academy Award Winning Director of Slumdog Millionaire Danny Boyle gave a motivational speech about his experiences in India and Scotland regarding street children, whilst Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Street Children, Russell Brown MP emphasised the importance of affecting change in government policy around the world towards street children. The CSC joined celebrations across the globe: by street children in Morocco, Uganda, Ethiopia, Guatemala and India; school children in the UK; students in Ireland; the Consortium for Street Children and its 60 members in over 130 countries; Aviva in the 28 countries in which it operates; and politicians in Tanzania and the UK.
